Paso Robles Wine Country Hosts Largest Outdoor Wine Tasting in California
May 20th - 22nd
PASO ROBLES, CA May 6, 2005 -- One of the fastest growing wine regions in the country is proud to host the 23rd Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2005, from noon to 5 p.m. Located in the quaint downtown Paso Robles City Park, the event will feature more than 70 local wineries and a variety of local food vendors. Centrally located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Paso Robles Wine Country is an easy weekend trip from just about any California location as wine festival organizers anticipate more than 15,000 visitors this year.
The industry also honors and dedicates the 2005 Wine Festival to the late Tom Martin, who passed away in early April of this year. A respected community and wine industry leader, Martin was considered by many to be a key visionary that helped chart the course of what Paso Robles Wine Country is today.
The Wine Festival is located on the Rockwell-like town square in the heart of Paso Robles. Wineries will be offering wine tastings in and around the walkways of the picturesque City Park. Two bands, Oasis and Pipe Dream, will provide entertainment, while local restaurants supply food and other beverages. Those interested in the wine making process, how barrels are made, or interested in growing their own grapes, can learn more from presentations taking place at the educational Growers Booth.
“During this unique wine festival, visitors see how the Paso wine community really joins together in support of each other”, says Neil Roberts, event co-chair and chairman of the Paso Robles Vintners and Growers Association. “It gives wine enthusiasts a great opportunity to experience the region’s distinct characteristics.”
Admission to the Festival is $40 and includes a commemorative wine glass and ten tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets are $1 each. Designated driver tickets are also available for $10, which include three non-alcoholic drink tickets and a beverage container. Advance tickets, and more information about the festival, can be found at www.pasowine.com, or tickets can be bought on site the day of the event. To avoid waiting in line the day of the event, organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance at the following locations:
· Paso Robles Vintners and Growers Association — www.pasowine.com, or 800-549-8463
· Chamber of Commerce Offices in Atascadero, Cambria, Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo
· Santa Lucia Bank Branches in Atascadero, Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles, or Santa Maria
· Great Gatsby in Arroyo Grande
The festival kicks off on Friday, May 20th, with its Annual Wine Festival Golf Tournament at the Hunter Ranch Golf Course. Local wineries are also hosting a variety of events starting Friday and continuing though Sunday. Wine tastings, tours, free food, live jazz, and winemaker dinners are just some of the enticing events taking place at the local wineries. Most are free to the public during the weekend – May 20-22.
